Writing for magazines and online

I often look for resources for our authors so they may spread the word about their books. One online source is Freelance writing jobs at freelancewriting.com.

There are plenty of articles to guide the new or even the seasoned writer. If you are an author, you need to get additional exposure and online writing is a great way to do…

Watching Yourself a Little to Closely

Just because you can isn't always the best reason for doing something. Well, really, it's no reason at all.  And when the "something" involves checking on yourself, it's all to easy to become addicted.  And addiction is rarely a pretty thing.

Ah, but it all starts so innocently:

Okay, so you have a new book, website, blog -- feel free to fill in the blank here.  And, yes, absolutely, it's all so exciting.  You've got your…

Authors PLEASE don't try to rewrite the review

Why ask a reviewer to review your book, if you are going to request that certain paragraphs be omitted, words changed, sentences added, etc? Reviewers are experts that give you their opinion and nothing more. Why ask them to change their opinion to make your book sound better. As the managing editor of Allbooks Review, I have had very few authors that have asked for changes. Our reviewers are professional that give an honest opinion. Once in awhile, an author tries to rewrite the review. Sorry… Continue

Why I Prefer Reading Shorter Novels

My own writing is driven by my directness and sense of urgency, so getting to "the point" is important. I'm not a professional writer (though I desperately want to be) and I have other things to do - as I expect do most readers, so paving the road for a tale and staying on track are critical aspects for my stories. Besides living in a busy world, distractions offered by technology further constrains the time people spend reading fiction - or doing any genuine reading at… Continue

Who's Your Target?

Are Authors Your Targeted Buyers? Social networks are great for socializing but should they be an author's principal venue for trying to sell books? What is your experience?

Consider those networks principally populated by authors. Some are extremely useful for providing resources, sharing ideas, experiences, obtaining inspiration, finding writing tools, and creating mutually beneficial relationships. However, taken alone, these networks should not be an author's sole or primary… Continue

How To Get That Deer-In-The-Headlights-Look on Lauren's Face

I just read my friend Sunny Frazier’s informative post, Welcome to Your World about a writer’s pet peeve: Meeting people who say they have a book in them, but are just too busy to write it. If you are a budding writer who simply can’t seem to get your book on paper, I…
