Here's how YOU can become a "magic solution" and have fun at it.

Can’t even Google this one

Years ago, more than I want to count back, I was a newbie to the ‘net. One of the early things I learned about was search engines. I think I started out with something called “Alta Vista”, (not positive; it’s been a while), and there was another with a one-time rather large browser and e-mail service I can no longer remember, (not Yahoo!). Quite honestly, I learned about…

Do you have a "perfect part" in your day? If so, can you explain-describe it?

Coincidence

Saturday, November 26th, 2011, 4:04 a.m. … Wrapped up what was, in my mind, the prior day’s business and hit the bed. I always turn on the fan atop my portable sock stand so it’ll blow on me when I’m sleeping, all snug under a sheet and two blankets. Prayed I’d fall asleep quickly for an enjoyable night’s rest with no pain, no problems, no disabilities. Gone in 60…

Can't Resist! A Gift Idea for Your Fave Fellow Writer or Writing Teacher?

I thought many of my old writing friends would like to give their writing friends the gift of success. It's not too late to order the beautiful new edition of The Frugal Book Promoter (http://budurl.com/FrugalBkPromo) for a special writing friend for Christmas. It's already a USA Book News award-winner! Of course, if you'd like to treat yourself to the new edition (Updated! Expanded!), what you'll get that you don't have in your old edition is…

I occasionally have a teeny heeb or a jeeb.

Bonus good news

Reactions to what I have to say in this post will vary. Many of you won’t give the north end of a southbound rat about this news, a few will shoot a victory fist over their heads. It’s safe to say the majority will be in between.

Put me in the raised fist category. I learned something today I call the answer to a prayer. This one is for someone else,…

Querying with PixApple? Really?

Yes, you read correctly. I have always subscribed to the dictum that familiarity breeds contempt (more…

Next thing I know, you'll start saying YOU have problems. Yeah, right.

Home for the winter, 2011

The very last comment at the bottom of the 4th page of what you’ll see by clicking this link might be something you find upsetting and also agree with. Well, wait. If you wouldn’t mind being without a home for almost nine years, seeing illegals come in, show a bunch of…

Your wisdom isn't just for others to hear, it's meant for you, as well.

When you give someone good advice …

… you also need to listen to it yourself.

That one jumped up and bit me today.

A friend of mine has had some rather enormous problems recently. She also suffers from a form of bipolarity and really, really doesn’t like crowds unless they consist of longstanding friends. Even then, small numbers…

Our perception of the day changes as we learn more about life and what we have.

Thanksgiving doesn’t mean the same to everyone

When I was a kid it meant no school, (only that day), plus a monster meal. Mom made a turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, some sort of vegetable I always made sure I never got more than a spoon of on my plate, and pies. The pumpkin pie was near the bottom of my list but, ‘tween Mom and Grandma, they’d cover my favorites, blueberry and rhubarb. Someone always…

Happy Thanks Giving

Hers wishing you a Happy Thanks Giving. Dawn Beaumont-Lane

To be (thinking about it), or not to be. That is the question.

So near, yet so far … or not?

Up and down. Back and forth. In and out.

No, I’m not describing a man and woman having sex. Get your mind out of the gutter. I’m talking about perception and perspective. Positioning. The old “where are we now” thing.

Maybe “where am I now” is more accurate. It concerns that ” being dead”…

Our Thanksgiving Gift To You

Thanksgiving - Be Safe, Be Happy, Be Grateful. Although Thanksgiving celebrations date back to the first European settlements in America, it was not until the 1860s that Abraham Lincoln declared the last Thursday of November to be a national…

Here's a story about being homeless from a couple who are still out there doing it.

Enjoyed your homeless book

This came in the mail from someone who looked at the blog, then downloaded How to Live Homeless, Not Helpless: The Survival & Recovery Guide, the “how-to” I wrote about being homeless. It’s available free. Either click that link if a pdf will do, or…

Sometimes I deserve a slap upside the head, maybe even a punch in the mouth!

An opportunity missed

Damn me! Damn me and anyone else who wants to be damned on my check!

That’s a slightly modified version of one of my faux Grandpa’s more memorable sayings. I no longer use the “g-d” version, but I’m sure you get the point. That’s something Bob McGeorge, said faux Grandpa, used in order to berate himself whenever he…

Here's what it's like with Simon Legree in charge of everything.

Appeasing an intolerant jerk

I’ll bet when you read those words your first thoughts darted to your boss, employer, the next step up in your chain of command. Or your spouse, perhaps. Maybe an older relative such as a parent, grandparent, even a crazy old aunt who managed to get out of the basement and is now driving you batty.

In my case it’s a guy I’ve worked for a…

Ready on the set. Lights, camera, action!

The Greenroom

Long, long ago, in a faraway place called Michigan, where they continuously elect Democrats and wonder why the state remains on the verge of bankruptcy, I wanted to do my part in the community. Help others. Make a contribution. Freshly out of a divorce in 1982 from a woman who breathed fire, I hooked up with the “…

Imagine mortgaging all your tomorrows.

Anesthesia is a misnomer

In theory, we use an anesthetic to avoid suffering the pain of a medical procedure. When I had that malignant tumor removed from my lower back, we discussed two scenarios, plus the mandatory part. Of course, that’s where they had to mention I might leave the table with…

Bear attacks & killings; shark attacks & killings. All have one thing in common.

BEYOND DUMB & DUMBER

It’s hard telling who deserves first place in this stupidity contest, the morons who go into the ocean, (especially within days of someone sighting a great white shark), or the yum-yums in the woods of Alaska and Canada. There’s been a spate of people killed recently by grizzly bears. Worse, they all know, (or should, if they’re dumb enough to be in deep forest ranges), the…
