Do Your Characters Come Alive in Your Novels

I am known as the Character Creator because my novel characters are just that - novel!

When I create a character, I go into my reserve of personas - in other words, I refer to my list of character traits then choose the traits and character type I want to portray.

The way to get a character traits list is by observing people you meet or pass by in everyday life. What made you notice that person. Was it their haircolor? The way they walked or their accent? Was it their style of… Continue

Banned Book Week

Banned Book Week

This week is Banned Book Week!

Banned Books Week is the only national celebration of the freedom to read. It was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. More than a thousand books have been challenged since 1982. The challenges have occurred in every state and in hundreds of communities.

In support of banned book week, you might want to read my vampire novels, The Dancing Valkyrie… Continue

Just built a Professional Bio page

Built a quick bio page I can link to blogs, etc. using Blogger. I was reading an article about twitter and what maximizes your posts. The author said to be sure and have legitimate comments in your description area and a way to show your background. They said it makes a big difference in credibility, and that sounds right to me -- so I built the bio and you're invited to take a peek.

New Professional Bio for Susan… Continue

The Devil Left His Bags....

The Devil Left His Bags

=======================

You put the devil out, but you let him leave his bags.

Never quite looked at it like this before...

You got out of a bad relationship because it was bad,

but you are still resentful and angry.

You let the devil leave his bags.

You got out of financial debt, but you still can't control

the desire to spend on frivolous things.

You let the devil leave his bags.

You got… Continue

MY PRAYER FOR YOU....

MY PRAYER FOR YOU

When you're lonely, I wish you LOVE. When you're down, I wish you JOY. When you're troubled I wish you PEACE. When things are complicated, I wish you SIMPLE BEAUTY. When things are chaotic, I wish you SILENCE. When things are empty, I wish you HOPE. When you feel you can't go on, I give you CHRIST.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you… Continue

Deadline approaching

I am making one last ditch effort to obtain interviews as to finish my book. I will have an ad placed in the local newspaper for those who are willing to participate. I am hoping that any press I can get will help, even if it is just an ad. It might just be enough to gain some interest in the project. I found out today that the city's project was extended from 7 to 10 years, thus my project must do the same.

The new due date is 2018. I nearly have two books under the belt right now.… Continue

Another happy reader

WOW… I have literally just finished reading it. I normally struggle to get through a novel, but this book took me on a journey that I didn’t want interrupted by tired blurry eyes and the body needing rest. I LOVED IT.

When is the sequel ready? I want to see Walter grow old and deal with the inevitable visits of the ‘Pelekane’

Newspaper Published Letter to the Editor, Civil Rights/Political Topic

Just got some publicity from a letter to the editor published by a good-sized newspaper about my strong dislike of Glenn Beck. Good opportunity to get my name around in a community where I want to do public speaking.

iFOGO badge, free Amazon libraries

Spent the morning adding the iFOGO badge to my blogs. I like it! It adds a nice touch of professionalism. Then I spent some more time tweeting about new posts on the Emmett Till blog. Added a new blog about Civil Rights and Delta Blues music.

Also spent some time "fixing" up my Amazon libraries (free to build with Associates program). The… Continue

Original plan went Poof!!!

The City of Gardens: The Invisible Society isthe second book in the series is near completion and will be released in March 2010. Unfortunately, I have no client base or network. I have spent all my resources on writing and had to chose which area needed my most attention. I figured that by overlookinfg the marketing, I will never complete the series. On the other hand, if I don't continue writing, I will still not to be able to finish the project.

I was banking on my controversial… Continue

What's Taking The Microwave So Long?

I was recently visiting a friend in Texas, when I observed a curious, though familiar, behavior that grabbed my attention. This friend placed a frozen dinner in the oven, set it for the required five minutes and stood there. It struck me as odd, because microwaves sound a chime when the time expires. And, just in case you dashed upstairs or to Hawaii, at intervals it chimes again, and again, and...

I watched, first with amusement then… Continue

Blogging works! Just interviewed by the Christian Science Monitor

Just had a lengthy interview with SCM and article should come out Wednesday. Because I've been blogging my book, Who Killed Emmett Till, the reporter called on a story she's writing about civil rights education in Mississippi. The interview lasted about an hour and I was able to give her lots of history and background. Fingers are crossed!

Meanwhile, post 16 is up.

Mississippi Delta civil rights leader,…
