Less time to worry

Funny the way things work out. I sat back this afternoon after finding two spare minutes I could rub together. Never realized the friction might start something. No, it wasn’t a fire, unless you call re-stoking the drive in a rabble rouser like me starting a fire.

I’d just finished preparing the post “…

It's a very violent world in which we live.

Black people burn their neighborhoods

That’s one retaliatory action I’ve never understood but, in times they feel they’ve been abused or mistreated, blacks burn property. They also loot the few merchants willing to stay and do business with them in that locale.

Every day in my newspaper I read about murders and terrible mayhem. People claim to have had abusive…

It should require a bit more than renewing the plates on a car.

Marriage renewals

How’s that for an oddball topic? Particularly from a man like me. My track record shows I’ve either learned so much about marriage and marital bliss as to have all the answers, with no exceptions, or I don’t know squat on the issue.

I can think of four people, all women, whom I’m certain would go for Option 2 on the list, but why digress?…

We've become a persecuted group like the blacks and the Jews, only smaller.

Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen

Those words are also the title to a very old song. We, as people, have a tendency to feel we deserve that as our motto more than anyone else, or at least more than most people. While we also tend to seek first place on any lists that might include us, no one goes after the…

It’s not a mood lightener to know someone else despises you.

The Doppelganger era

Although my ethnicity is largely Germanic, I don’t speak the language. I may know a dozen words in German, if that. Not that many people who aren’t German even speak it, as far as I know. Perhaps it’s because German sounds so guttural when spoken. The words resonate as harsh, crude, even unfriendly to me.

Caught it on an episode of NCIS when one…

If you have a "connection", or a great idea, here's your chance to be of real help.

This is an idea that will do great things

One of our blog readers has a great idea. I’m totally in favor, but it’ll require some direction from someone with contacts and-or ideas. I’ll paste in his suggestions below. If you have any thoughts on the matter, I want to hear from you.

What should you do when the good news also sucks?

I heard from our old friends today

If you’ve spent any time at all reading this blog, you know a great deal of attention is given to the homeless community, a group that included me from 2005-2009 among its members. I made a number of friends during those years who were beset with very similar lives, and none of them liked it, either. Since 2009 I’ve had a home, but I’ll always be a homeless guy as…

The End of Capital

Sounds Socialist, doesn't it? Relax, you U.S. radical patriots. I'm talking about a city in my trilogy of fantasy-horror books. It's a walled city where the Chosen people and their military hide from heathen terrorists. Most other Science Fiction stories will call an equivalent city the generic name Capitol. Not me, I've got to be complex. Forgive me, I'm desperate for attention. I'll pander to medical marijuana…

Five minutes of your time. That's it. Nothing more.

I became a pro at begging

It seems I’ve always had a talent for dealing with whatever situation I was forced into. If a man can’t deal with life, then life will deal with him. Trust me, it ain’t pretty that way.

In case you haven’t heard about it, I was homeless once. It was a paltry 1,592 days and nights, from January 17th, 2005 to May 29th,…

Around 150 very bloody fights, but the last was the one with all the gore.

After the takedown

There’s no way to preplan a street fight. The first 10-20 seconds will almost always indicate which way it’s gonna go. You’re going to establish the winner, in most cases, right there.

Initially, if the participants are on their feet, the first priority is to knock the other guy to the ground. At that point, the procedure usually leads to a…

And you think YOU have problems?

Testimonial to a real hero

One of my neighbors has what can only be called “True Grit“, the name of a 1969 western where John Wayne won his only Academy Award for playing Rooster Cogburn. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Phil Bond as a friend since I moved here in June, 2009. If I were to use one of the better known…

You have a chance to be a part of something important.

What if “we” were the start of something big?

Big things always get started as little things at first.

This may be deemed an important point in the string of things that began when I started this blog in June, 2009. My “mission“, since then has been to bring your attention to the many of us damned to live in…

Can't believe I'd say this, but these two DESERVE to be homeless.

The two weirdest women ever

Most of you, the blog readers, are my friends, so you know a bit about me by now. Even those with whom I don’t have a personal relationship, if you’ve read these posts for very long, are aware there’ve been some oddball women in my life. Granted, you’ve only heard my side of it, and there’s not much chance I’d ever let any of my exes write a guest column, so you probably…

Most likely, you're shirking a responsibility to a great friend.

Collision of two life forces

If you take into account some of the varied meanings of the word “collision”, the title to this piece could lead to a discussion of three of my four marriages. The first one, my “training marriage”, never really had any ugly spots. It plateaued at boring, idled there until it “matured” at five years, then went “poof” in two weeks. The others gave a whole new meaning to the…

What happens when you get what you ask for and you can't handle it all?

Be careful what you wish for

You might get it.

We’ve all heard that old bromide before. Many times. Apparently not often enough yet for me to remember it, however. In a way, I’m getting part of what I wished for and now I can’t handle it. In brief, I need some help. I hope that help is you.

The purposes of this blog are to raise…

Can you imagine being treated as if you were a disease-bearing fly?

You attract more flies …

… with honey than with vinegar. Ever heard that one before? If not, it proves you never had a grandma or a first grade teacher.

Perhaps I was missing something the first two plus years after I “made parole” from being homeless, where I only watched TV when my San Diego Padres or Chargers were playing. It seems the motivation for a number of…

Extreme anger toward a gooey body part? What's up with that?

I hate yer guts!

How many times have you said that to another person? I don’t think I know one single person in the entire world who hasn’t said it to someone at least once. I know I have on occasion but, if you look at it in the light of reality, it sounds kinda stupid. I think it’s a standard line in almost all divorce proceedings when the soon to be single partners are busy failing to…
