HERE’S A TOUGH ONE FOR YA

How low can a kid sink? To being homeless ... perhaps the rest of his or her life?

Most of you know by this point I can’t stand kids and I have zero tolerance for dopers. Even so, I still feel sorry for these people. Even me!

They’re at the age where eleven out of every ten deserve a backhand to the mouth … but come on!

Disillusioned, disadvantaged, disenfranchised, disconnected.

When they “graduate” they’ll be afforded a chance to spend…

IMAGINATION, A DEMON INSIDE US

One of the most powerful machines in the universe is the human imagination. It can recreate anything that’s ever been, refashion everything that exists today in an improved or worsened way, or build a host of things not yet to be, or perhaps impossible in any other venue.

Imagination can make evils leap from thin air or rain wealth and luxury on the one waving that magic wand. It can bring us terror or inflict it on our enemies. Bathe us in ecstasy or dip us into the fetid cesspools…

A Review of The Other Life by Ellen Meister

Beyond the Crack in the Foundation Lies the Life She Might Have Lived

The Other Life is fascinating, original and intriguing. Exploring the complexities of mother/daughter dynamics, the book examines the consequences when that love is put to the ultimate test. If you are longing for invigorating, relevant writing over a broad emotional plane, you will love this book. Be prepared to be touched deeply.

What…

WE ALL NEED A “WOULD YOU RATHER …”

During the 4.33 years I was homeless I had a “would you rather be like that?” symbol I came upon every few days. As I’d make my two daily trips for food, then head for the campground to stay as unnoticed as possible, I’d drive past him a few times per week. He was a tubby old guy, late 60s-early 70s, who could walk, but not well. He was using a wheelchair alongside Hwy 76 here in Oceanside, CA, probably doing the same thing; getting something to eat.

Whenever I saw him, even…

WHAT'S IT COST TO GET TREASURE?

If you can’t recognize what it really is, the cost seems relatively cheap. Usually a little bit of undeserved hatred and some cheating will be enough. If the one who wants the treasure is willing to do whatever it takes to get it … or thinks so, based only on impulse … the answers seem comparatively simple. Commit whatever bad acts are necessary, using a façade to get there, and it can all be explained away with no problem. Call it good will, community duty, keeping things cleaned up, even…

COME PLAY A GAME WITH ME

This will go over really well with anyone who enjoys playing games.

We’ll call it “Catastrophe With Regularity”, just for kicks. I know, right away it doesn’t make much sense, since a catastrophe has no rhythm or even-natured status. Work with me a little, huh?

We’ll need an income figure to work with, so we’ll use yours. You don’t need to give me an amount, just keep it in mind. Yours is either fixed and regular, or it fluctuates, perhaps based on commissions, bonuses,…

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL ... FOR MOST PEOPLE

"Sure I wave the American flag. Do you know a better flag to wave? Sure I love my country with all her faults. I'm not ashamed of that, never have been, never will be." ~John Wayne

This is the United States of America. My country. Your country. Our heritage. Where we live, what we are, and something of which almost all of us are incredibly proud.

Not just the 3.79 million square miles, or…

MESSAGES

They come in all shapes and sizes. Different sounds, varying mediums, sources we’d never suspect. Music is an excellent fiduciary when it comes to transmitting a thought, a feeling, an idea. It’s something that gets inside us quickly … assuming it’s done properly … and keeps us entertained.

In most cases it won’t teach us anything, though, because people don’t listen. I’ve even done blog posts on that very fact. We don’t listen … unless someone motivates us to do so.

In the…

BAD DOG!!!

BAD  DOG!!!

Back in December of last year, (2010), a lady friend came down to Oceanside to spend a few days in wild frolicsome … aw, man! Don't even go there! Friendship is the best you get in this totally non-racy story. At our ages we didn't even talk about "fooling around", let alone devote necessary energy to "doing the deed", as we called it when I was in high school.

She lives 45 minutes north and had some things to take care of in this area,…

MOVING ON

If I was as smart as you are, most likely a lot of these blog posts would never be written. There are times when I'm editing them, just before I publish, I swear I can hear muted groans from the back of the room. Perhaps even a few of you muttering, "Who didn't know that?"

I'd even turn over the reins if you ever showed up and said you were ready to go, but you haven't yet, so the rest are stuck with me for the time being.

Recently I was tentatively…

Allbooks Review quote of the Month

According to a Newsweek Article:

"The transformation of the book industry has reached a tipping point.  Electronic books now outsell paperbacks on

Amazon, the retailer recently announced. And Borders, the second largest bookstore chain in the

United States, is reportedly considering a bankruptcy filing.

THE "W" PRINCIPLE … IN REAL LIFE

There's a system in writing called the "W Principle", based on the shape of the letter. Only people who read fantasy-fiction would ever want to start a story, (or continue reading it), if everything turned out to be all fun and enjoyment with never any bad news. Escapist readers who want to pretend the hardships of life don't exist might enjoy those things, but it's a small market.

The "W principle" applies in all good fiction, as well as nonfiction if it contains drama or is a…
