Timothy Heffernan replied to Gene Cartwright's discussion What Do You Really Think of Agents?
"I certainly developed opinions about agents, but unfortunately these opinions have come at arms length since I have never been able to secure agent representation or even convince an agent to read my novel. It did not seem to matter that it received…"

Most compelling characters in modern fiction?

I'm interested in your opinions regarding your favorite characters from modern fiction. Which characters do you love, or love to hate? What makes these charcters so compelling to you? I think this can help each of us develop a better understanding of what makes a character connect with readers. My personal favorites include Aloysius Pendergast, the eclectic and unconventional FBI free agent in numerous novels by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. "Very nice trailer Gene. I am currently working on my first trailer and struggling a bit. But I recognize that I needed to go through the process to get where I hope to end up. Your trailer gives me a good model. Great job."

Tell Us a Little About Yourself
Author
Brief Biography (Authors Required - Others, optional)
I am a biologist, an environmental scientist and an entrepreneur. I write extensively in my professional life as an environmental consultant. While creative writing represents a recent passion, I am determined to turn it into a vocation. My professional and recreational pursuits have taken me to remote corners of the globe and provided me with life-changing interactions with indigenous tribes. My writing reflects my passion for adventurous travel, my abiding respect for all living creatures, and my concern for the indigenous cultures struggling to survive in a shrinking world. Of Blood and Blackwater is my first novel.
I reside in Indianapolis, Indiana, with my wife, Laura, and our two, “children” (of the four legged variety).

Hello Timothy, and welcome to ifogo.

I got a couple of those editors awards from Allbooks Review, but I still haven't been invited to James Herbert or Stephen Kings house for dinner. I think I'll get Shirley to write them a letter.

Good luck with your writing, and never give up. Gerry
