Freaky little novella written by an older Mississippi man

I like good stories that support the topic of my books, civil rights or lack thereof in Mississippi. The other day, I was using google to see what I could ferret out about Mississippi's Klan/Mafia connection and I came across a novella written by a man from eastern Mississippi. The book is loosely based on his experiences growing up with family members in the Klan. Wanting to learn more, I sent him email and ended up with a story that I could use on my Civil Rights Stories blog. Take a look --…See More

Story-Telling and Non-Fiction; a Good Mix

While gathering research for my book "Who Killed Emmett Till?" I heard stories of so many violent incidences in the Mississippi Delta that I wondered what it would be like to raise children surrounded by such horror. One evening, while sitting at Walter Scurlock's restaurant in the small town of Drew, my husband and I found ourselves having coffee with Nettie Davis, one of the first black people from Drew who would talk to me about Emmett Till and other murders in the Delta. She introduced us to…See More

Tell Us a Little About Yourself
Author
Brief Biography (Authors Required - Others, optional)
Susan Klopfer, an Oregon native and an award-winning journalist, draws from her experiences living in various regions throughout the United States including Nevada, Texas, Indiana, Missouri, Mississippi and Iowa. She and her husband Fred, a psychologist, along with pets Ralph, Popsicle and Maury, currently live in a small Iowa town near the Mississippi River. They are the parents of one son, Barry, a New Mexico lawyer. Susan enjoys researching and writing civil rights history stories about the Mississippi Delta and became interested when living on the grounds of an historic Mississippi prison, Parchman Penitentiary. While there, she traveled around the Delta talking with older people who shared stories of their involvement in the modern civil rights movement. Becoming especially intrigued with the stories of Fannie Lou Hamer, Aaron Henry, Cleve McDowell, Birdia Keglar, Adlena Hamlett -- all civil rights activists -- she spent nearly two years uncovering stories about their lives and activities. Learning she was living close to the small Delta town where Emmett Till was murdered, she sought out more facts about this and other civil rights murders and cold cases and is currently blogging a book on the topic. She is a John Grisham fan and gets into the Delta Blues. "One of my best Delta memories is listening to BB King play the blues in a tiny Indianola juke in the heart of Sunflower County."

Had to share this quote

Posted on March 19, 2010 at 2:12pm 0 Comments

Reading the new Guerrilla Marketing for Writers (Jay Conrad Levenson, Rick Frishman,Michael Larsen, and David L. Hancok) and it's great. Just wanted to share this quote because it made me stop for a moment...

Our earth is degenerate in these latter days; there are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end; bribery and corruption are common; children no longer obey their parents; every man wants to write a book; indeed, the end of the world is…

Thank you so much Susan,

A copy of each will be mailed today from the USA. Allow a few days for delivery.

Either a review - especially of A COLLECTION OF VERSE - non-fiction, 108 pages - or an author interview would be much appreciated.

Have a great day.

With love,

Eliza

Bearing in mind that the details on my website affect us all, would you be interested in doing an author interview/article re this work?

A copy of one or both books can be sent free on request.
