Brief Biography (Authors Required - Others, optional)
Carolyn Loves To Write

About the Author

I was born writing and talking—or very nearly. That explains my love of the speaking circuit and of writing everything from poetry to my latest novel.

When I was accepted as a writer for the Olympus High School Thunderbolt in Salt Lake City, I thought of it as my first professional job. In art class I made myself a wallet with an inkpot and quill carefully incised into cowhide, kept scrapbooks of everything I wrote and everything that was published whether it was good bad or indifferent. I dreamed writing and lived writing.

I was the youngest person ever hired as a staff writer for the Salt Lake Tribune--"A Great Pulitzer Prize Winning Newspaper.” After that my infatuation only became more intense.

Later, in New York, I was an editorial assistant at Good Housekeeping Magazine. I also was a publicity writer for Eleanor Lambert (fashion) in that city. I wrote releases for celebrity designers of the time including Pauline Trigere, Rudy Gernreich and Christian Dior.

Other early writing experience included the Oak Park Press (a weekly in the Chicago area) where I helped institute a Sunday edition and published self-help articles in magazines such as Ingenue and humorous features in magazines like Stereo.

I did the publicity and advertising for my own small chain of retail gift stores and was a member of the advisory board of Giftbeat, a gift industry newsletter. I served on boards of advisors for industry catalog groups and the California Gift Show, one of the largest in the industry. I also speak at gift shows, a kind of lecture circuit for the gift industry and am contributing editor for Home Décor Buyer.I recently published a book for retailers called A Retailer’s Guide to Frugal In-Store Promotions: How To Increase Profits and Spit in the Eyes of Economic Downturns with Thrifty Events and Sales Techniques.

I enjoy writing for other authors, too. I blog at Sharing with Writers, www.sharingwithwriters.blogspot.com, a Writer's Digest 101 Best Websites pick and at The Frugal, Smart and Tuned-In blog, www.thefrugaleditor.blogspot.com. Also find information on book fairs at www.sizzlingbookfairbooths.blogspot.com.

I was graduated from USC and have did postgraduate work in writing at UCLA's Extension Division. I found the UCLA and San Diego State Writers Conferences extremely valuable. I have been a past columnist and reviewer for The Salt Lake Tribune, Pasadena Star News, Glendale News-Press and others.

My proudest achievements are the completion of my first novel, This Is The Place, and my first screenplay, The Killing Ground. A chapter from the novel was a finalist for the prestigious Masters Literary Award and the novel won the Sime-Gen Reviewers’ Choice Award in the mainstream category. One of my short stories from my next book, Harkening: A Collection of Stories Remembered, won the Red Sky Writing Competition and is included in an anthology called Pass Fail.

“When you live amid beauty sometimes you don’t recognize discrimination

A young Jrnl.ist realizes that because she is half Mormon and half Protestant she is not suitable material for love. She delves into her Mormon heritage and Jrnl.s her way through prejudice into redemption. She learns to mend her own life when she finds she cannot mend her world. This novel, set in Salt Lake City in the 50s, reveals not only complexities of the heart but the secrets of what some consider a mysterious place and culture.

Can you hear me now!!! Here comes One OOWEE Under GOD, with personal and dramatic POETRY (A LIFE IN NO SPECIFIC ORDER & A LIFE GETTING IN SPECIFIC ORDER), gripping and venting SHORT STORIES (PEACE, BE STILL) and a blazing novel titled The Spices In Life; it's becoming soooooooooooo amazing.

January 2010 will sum up all my literary hardknocks up to this point. My creativeness touching on everything that I hope to become and, what has taken me so long in getting there (here). Had it not been for the Lord on my side, I don't know where I'd be, I can guess though; let's see, locked up or locked under.

Days don?t look as
glorious when
your heart?s
been shattered.
It seems
time takes,
as the itty
bitty ?peaces?
struggle to
get together
again.
I looked
out into
the sunshine
and saw
nothing;
but light.
The grass
seemed to
get greener
in an instant.
I thought
it was light
blue shaded
with whites
and grays
and birds;
the sky.

Love YA!

FREEDOM
I wanted to be left feeling invisible because to remember would be unfeeling; compassionately socializing with the enemy shouldn't deliberately weigh on my feelings. Why would my sanity truly depend on your survival; that can't be. Why can't the feelings of being down have its window shut; spilling to the ground. The explanation of when I rage; has been shut up so long that I've forgotten the rules and pleasures to openness; if there's really still a place for me. The only thing that's changed is that the applause is only quieter. The bright lights of 'insane'; frightening nights is what my soul knows to be forgotten amongst the sane. I try not to weep or willow but out-casted is, as out-casted does. Don't cry for me because I hide part the way; let's get it straight. My forgetting my whole self because I have been born again and again and again and...; I ain't mad, I go on. How do you unscramble a rattled mind that's struggling to be born again with the hope I have left; I've lived in the flesh, now die in the Word. God has plans for me, as soon as I figure at what they are.

Dear Ms. Johnson,

I reached out recently to Ms. Cauldwell regarding rates for advertising my novel on her site. Imagine how excited I was to read your recent blog post. I am thrilled at the prospect of being a part of this endeavor. I sincerely hope I will get an opportunity to be involved. I'm emailing Ms. Cauldwell right now!

heh heh heh. Now I hope you know what to do with that backup thingy :-) Yes it is that easy, but you can call me anytime. Been on the phone 2 days now trying to get my sister's PC running again and back on line. Thank GOD she is finally going to get a MAC! Meanwhile she's freaking out 'cause she can't get her pictures and emails. Pain in my butt but she's my sister. Just want to get her online again to get her emails and have her send me her hard drive so I can do the rest myself. WOuld jump on a plane if I could afford it just to save us both this heartache! Don't twitter too much, just now and then. Sometimes it seems more like just letting everyone know what I'm doing and I never get any answers anyway. Facebook is much easier.
